Swedish gaming authority concludes regulatory inspections

Sweden’s gambling regulator, Spelinspektionen, conducted a thorough investigation of three prominent gambling companies: Paf International plc, Burstit Ltd, and LeoEx Ltd. After a comprehensive review of their gaming, technical, and business systems, Spelinspektionen confirmed that all three companies comply with the nation’s gambling laws.

Overview of investigation

Spelinspektionen is the regulatory body responsible for overseeing Sweden’s gambling industry. Its mission is to ensure that all gambling operations in the country are conducted in a safe, secure, and transparent manner. By conducting regular investigations and enforcing annual testing requirements, the regulator ensures that only companies meeting its high standards are allowed to operate in Sweden.

The summer 2024 investigation conducted by Spelinspektionen was part of an annual review process mandated by Swedish law. Each year, all licensed gambling operators must undergo comprehensive evaluations of their gaming platforms, technical systems, and business practices to ensure they meet the necessary regulatory standards. This process is designed to protect consumers and maintain the integrity of the gambling industry in Sweden.

The 2024 investigation confirmed that Paf International, Burstit Ltd, and LeoEx Ltd fully comply with Sweden’s gambling regulations. No major issues were found, and all three companies passed their tests with ease. However, Spelinspektionen banned four companies Itsfail Ltd, Teamfail Limited, NewEra BV, and Jer-Team NV from operating in Sweden due to licensing violations.

In 2023, Paf International reported a 7% increase in revenue, reaching $191.7 million. This growth, paired with record profit figures, highlights Paf’s strong performance in the market. In late September 2023, the company launched a joint venture with Yggdrasil to introduce the SpeedyBet brand in Spain.

Responsible gambling in Sweden

Responsible gambling is a core focus of Spelinspektionen’s regulatory efforts. Operators are required to implement measures that protect players from excessive gambling and ensure a safe environment for all users.

The Swedish gambling market continues to evolve, with online gaming taking centre stage. With a strong regulatory framework and growing demand for digital gambling platforms, the industry is poised for further growth.
